Have you ever been to a pretty Switzerland village with less than 10 inhabitants? The village of Corippo, located in the Ticino canton, is just that! With quaint little granite houses, a local historical church and plenty of surrounding nature, the village is possible to visit as well as sleep the night at. It is a perfect pitstop while on a local hike in the Verzasca valley too.

About The Village Of Corippo
The village of Corippo had only 12 inhabitants registered in July 2018. This changed to only 9 inhabitants registered in December 2019, making it the smallest village in Ticino!
The entire village of Corippo is designated as part of the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites.
It was once well known for its hemp production, which was used in the textile trade.
The elevation is recorded at 558 meters.
The houses are very pretty, built from the local Ticino granite with slate roofs.
The Verzasca valley dam is not too far from the village, which most tourists visit along the valley.
Corippo is part of municipality of Verzasca since 17th October 2020, together with the villages of Sonogno, Brione, Vogorno and Frasco.
It is a charming little village that you can spot from the main road along the Verzasca valley, which most people visit for the beautiful crystal clear waters on a hot Summers day. It’s truly a paradise location in Ticino!

Where Is Corippo?
The village is located in the Verzasca Valley, which is part of the beautifully sunny canton of Ticino. With the village based within the Locarno district.
How do I get to corippo?
To get to Corippo, it is best to take the local yellow public buses.
By public transport, you can hop on the local bus at the Tenero-Contra bus station. It is bus 321 which then takes you up the valley, past the Verzasca Dam and then to get off at the stop called Corippo, Bivio. This takes around 42 minutes only.
Once at the bus stop, its a short 15 minute walk up to the village.
Here are some examples of public transport (train and bus) based on if you are in Ticino already:
- From Lugano, it takes 1 hour 13 minutes
- From Bellinzona, it takes 1 hour 25 minutes
- From Locarno, it takes 1 hour 20 minutes
By car, you can choose drive all the way to the village from the main road, crossing the little bridge at the end across the water and up to the village. However this is not ideal as there is not many suitable parking spots and so you may not get to enjoy the village by foot.

What Can You See In Corippo?
Since Corippo is such a small village, you may expect that there is not actually that much to see, but it is still rather special to see with your own eyes. The houses are very pretty for those who enjoy photography, especially during the Spring flowering seasons.
The village has a historical mill that you can see while exploring. The mill was restored in Autumn 2019 such as with the replacement of the gears and wheel. It is open and free to visit.
In the village you can see and visit the Chiesa di Santa Maria del Carmine (Church of the Blessed Virgin Carmine). This catholic church has a late baroque style and was remodeled in the late eighteenth century with a new facade, a larger bell tower and a side chapel was added.
A little hike away is an observation viewpoint of the village of Corippo. It’s a very good angle to see the whole village.
The village is also a great place to hike through and around. There are numerous hiking routes in the Verzasca Valley, such as hiking along the river or up to one of the local mountain peaks. A personal recommendation is to visit Corippo in combination with the local Ponte dei Salti bridge. It’s a lovely route where you can experience the village and nature along the way.

Yes! definitely, and you should!
For such a small location, the village of Corippo actually has quite a few places you can book one or multiple nights at. These are perfect for those looking for some peace and quiet, a place to relax, for a village experience in the mountains and for those who love hiking!
